Small schools square off
The top high school boys basketball players from A level schools (student population 500 and below) from Zone 3 and Zone 4 squared off recently in the Niagara Regional Small School Showcase at Great Lakes Christian High School in Beamsville sponsored by Domino’s Pizza and Redeemer Christian University.
“I organized the game to recognize the players from A level schools in the area and to celebrate high school basketball with them,” Great Lakes Vice Principal – Head of Residences Dwayne Williams said. “This game was held pre-covid at the Meridian Centre – we have hopes of getting it going again by holding it at a few area high schools before attempting that again.”
Zone 4 prevailed 70-52 in the contest which saw a handful of rim-rattling dunks by standout Malachi Scott from GLCHS. Scott led all scorers with 16 points and was named the game’s most valuable player. At halftime, there was a three-point competition won by Demi Olapaju who hit six of eight in the final round.
