Falcons with eighth in a row
The St. Catharines Falcons made it eight wins in a row with a 6-1 victory over the Buffalo Regals in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, Golden Horseshoe Conference action Friday night at Jack Gatecliff Arena.
“I thought we did a good job of controlling the puck and getting shots to the net. We could have capitalized on a few more, but their goalie worked hard to keep the puck out. Overall, it was a win we had to have and we got it,” Falcons coach Dan Fitzgerald said.
St. Catharines jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one on goals by Jaleel Adams, Tyler MacArthur and Liam Dunda.
The Falcons upped their lead to 5-0 after 40 when Dakota Miskolczi and Carson Edwardson, with his first as a Falcon, scored. In between Logan Gare was unsuccessful on a penalty shot attempt for Buffalo.
Michael Sokol finally got the Regals on the board early in the third before Romeo D’Intino rounded out the scoring with a late goal for the Falcons.
Coupled with an Ancaster loss at Niagara Falls, the Falcons are now in second place, one point up on the Avs.
The Falcons travel to Fort Erie Saturday and Thorold Thursday .
Canucks 4 Avalanche 2
The Niagara Falls Canucks rebounded from a pair of losses last weekend to the St. Catharines Falcons with a big 4-2 win at home over the Ancaster Avalanche.
Frank Pucci, Matthew Caruso, Jacob Stos and Noa Boman, into an empty net, scored for the Canucks.
Kyle Kennery and Benjamin Woodhouse replied for the Avs.
