Area sports: Dakin/Woodburn tourney; Rebels basketball; bowling results
The Governor Simcoe Redcoats will be one of eight teams competing in this week’s John Dakin and Pat Woodburn Classic senior boys basketball tournament.
The John Dakin and Pat Woodburn Classic senior boys basketball tournament will be played Thursday to Saturday at Governor Simcoe.
Thursday’s games include: Eden vs St. Catharines Collegiate at 1 p.m.; Ancaster vs. Sir Winston Churchill at 4 p.m.; Denis Morris vs. Orchard Park at 7 p.m. and Governor Simcoe vs. Jean Vanier at 8:30 p.m.
Consolation semifinals will be played at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday while the championship semifinals will go at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule includes: the seventh-place game at 10 a.m.; the consolation final at 1 p.m.; the third-place game at 2:30 p.m.; and, the championship final at 5:30 p.m.
REBELS TAKE TWO
The St. Catharines Rebels under-14 girls basketball team was unbeaten in recent play, defeating the Kitchener-Waterloo Lightning 56-29 and the London Ramblers 52-38.
Top St. Catharines scorers versus Kitchener-Waterloo were Jordan Wilton (16), Brookelyn Keltos (8) and Bianca Sestili (7).
Leading the way against London were Yemi Oladipo (14), Keltos (8), Sestili (8) and Amye Buchan (5).
The wins put the Rebels in first place in Pool A action.
Next up for the team is the Transway Tournament Feb. 9-11.
