SCRC finishes with six Henley golds
The St. Catharines Rowing Club’s men’s under-19 eight was the only local crew to win gold Sunday as the 136th Annual Royal Canadian Henley Regatta wrapped up in St. Catharines.
Previous wins by St. Catharines Rowing Club came in the under-19 men’s coxed four, the under-19 women’s single, under-17 men’s eight, senior men’s lightweight pair and the men’s lightweight eight dash.
The South Niagara Rowing Club was the only other local crew to mine Henley gold, placing first in the senior men’s 64-kilogram coxed four.
Other clubs with three or more victories included: Vesper (8), Argentina (6), University of Victoria (5), Winnipeg (4), Penn AC (4), Cambridge (3), Peterborough (3), Don (3), Mendotta (3) and Ottawa (3).
Local rowers Jared Naar (South Niagara) and Luke Gadson (St. Catharines Rowing Club) were part of the University Western Ontario/Comp boat which took home gold in the final race of the day, the men’s championship eight.
Local crews that placed second in Henley finals Sunday were: South Niagara’s senior 64-kilogram single (Sean Whitehall); SCRC women’s senior 52-kilogram coxed four (Kasaundra Pariak, Riley Young, Noelle Batiste, Emma Parkin, Erynn Hutley); SCRC’s men’s under-17 coxed four (David Picard, Liam Banner, Kerwin Felsbourg, Max Caruso and Emily Irwin); SCRC’s men’s senior lightweight eight (Dylan Vanderloos, Malcolm Cavanagh, Zach Whiteley, Noah Van Helvert, Jacob Martens, Owen Voelkner, Eric Buchanan, Jacob Giesbrecht and Raymond Wong); and, SCRC’s women’s under four (Brenna Randall, Amanda Martin, Lauren Gadson and Anna Maloney).
Local crews that ended up third in Henley finals Sunday were: SCRC women’s under-19 quad (Isabel Frolick, Annamaria Lavecchia, Lauren Kelly and Hailey Mercury); the South Niagara’s men’s under-19 quad (Andrew Suthons, Campbell Reid, Brice Maidens and David Law); SCRS men’s senior 64-kilogram single (Joe Coughler); SCRC’s women’s senior lightweight quad (Carly Zanatta, Andrea Jansen, Michelle Prince and Jennifer Beaudette); and, SCRC’s women’s under-23 lightweight four (Hana Chamberlain, Sarah-Jane Mambella, Olivia Jose and Alicia Piazza).
Local crews that made Sunday’s finals included: The fifth place Ridley Graduate women’s under-19 quad (Eva Sabine, Gabrielle Cook, Grace McNally and Madison Chuchla); the sixth-place Niagara senior 64-kilogram single (Scott Klassen); the fifth-place SCRC’s women’s under-19 eight (Madeline Hingston, Annamaria Lavecchia, Hailey Mercuri, Lauren Nuccitelli, Isabel Frolick, Trinity Arsenault, Lauren Kelly, Madison Orlando-Jepson and cox Brooke Kew); the fourth-place SCRC’s men’s under-23 lightweight pair (Jacob Martens and Owen Voelkner); and, the fifth-place SCRC’s men’s under-23 lightweight pair (Noah Van Helvert and Malcolm Cavanagh).
Argentina won the efficiency trophy.
