Local sport: BT wins NCAA junior football, Fairview bowling; Jets soccer; Ridley hockey
The Blessed Trinity junior football team followed up an 8-7 semifinal victory over the Saint Paul Patriots by defeating Notre Dame 29-19 in the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association championship game.
The Thunder built a 22-7 lead in a game that featured back and forth play and turnovers from both sides. Notre Dame rallied before the Thunder were able to hold on for the victory.
The playoff run followed a Blessed Trinity regular season that saw the Thunder finish 2-2, including an 8-5 loss to Notre Dame and a 31-30 defeat at the hands of Saint Paul.
Significant contributors during the season for Blessed Trinity were Hunter Oakley, Corbin Paterson, Nathan Biggs, Gavan Banga and David Smith.
Blessed Trinity advances to the Niagara final Nov. 15 at 4 p.m. at Kiwanis Field against the Niagara Region High School Athletic Association champions. Tickets will be sold at each home school for $2 for students and $3 for adults.
RIDLEY TRIPLES CHINA
The Ridley College girls prep hockey team defeated Team China 3-1 in recent exhibition.
China’s team included a 2014 Olympian.
Scoring for Ridley were Abbey Bowley from Niagara Falls, Shae-Lynn Clarke and Shailynn Snow.
U15 JETS SEEK PLAYERS
The St. Catharines Jets under-15 girls soccer team (born 2003) is looking for a few girls to play in the Niagara travel league next summer.
