The Notre Dame Fighting Irish junior girls basketball team defeated the Sir Allan MacNab Lions 78-4 to win the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association AA title.
Notre Dame advanced to the final with a 60-37 victory over Eden.
Members of the team, coached by head coach Agi Mete and assistant Liz Mortier, were Abby Bullett, Emily Foest, Sophia Dixon, Emma Kulik, Makenna Patten, Abigale Phillips, Kiara LeBlanc, Alissa Mete, Lauren Audino, Sophia Belcastro and Hannah Collee
The squad finished with an overall record of 24-1, including tournament wins at A.N. Myer and the Frank Hayden Tournament in Burlington. Notre Dame’s only loss was a 49-48 setback to Newmarket’s Sacred Heart High School in the finals of the Brampton Centennial Tournament.
Notre Dame beat St. Francis in the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association championship and A.N. Myer in the Zone 3 final.
“We had 11 players who all equally contributed in every game we played this season.” Agi Mete said. It didn’t matter who was on the court.
“We relied on our athleticism to put pressure on teams and move the ball quickly up the court.”
