Nancy Storrs indoor rowing results
Ridley College’s fieldhouse was buzzing with activity Saturday as it played host to the Nancy Storrs Indoor Rowing Championships.
There were 571 competitors racing, ranging in age to 66 from nine, as the numbers rebounded nicely to pre-COVID levels.
“The sport is coming back, there are more kids getting involved again and we have a few more clubs joining,” regatta chair Caitlin Pauls said. “The sport is continuing to grow which is fantastic. We also added the under-13 and under-15 events (last year) to bring in the younger generation.”
The competitive highlight of the meet was authored by Victoria Gates from Niagara Falls Rowing Club. She pulled an event record in the junior high school women’s event, beating the previous record from 2000 by 0.6 seconds.
This year’s championships were also the Ontario championships. In the future, RowOntario is planning to take over the Ontario championships and the Ridley Graduate Boat Club will continue to host the Nancy Storrs championships.
