Eight national titles for Brock wrestlers

Mia Friesen returned from Ottawa this weekend with her first-ever gold medal at the Canadian Senior Wrestling Championships.
The Brock Wrestling Club member defeated Laurence Beauregard from Montreal NTC/Montreal WC 5-4 to win the 57-kilogram division.
Other Brock wrestlers bringing home golds were Olivia Di Bacco and Shauna Kuebeck. Di Bacco won the 68-kilogram final by technical superiority over clubmate Vanessa Keefe and Kuebeck ruled the 76-kilogram division by winning every match in her pool, including a 6-3 decision over clubmate and silver medalist Brianna Fraser.
Samantha Adams placed second at 65 kilograms. She lost the final 7-4 to Jonelle Clarke of the London-Western WC.
Michaela Rankin went 1-3 in pool wrestling to finish fourth at 62 kilograms and Samantha Romano was fifth at 50 kilograms. Romano defeated Kelyn Young of Guelph WC 6-2 in the fifth-place match.
SENIOR MEN
In senior men’s, Brock’s Richard DesChatelets, Jr. defeated teammate Roger Li 4-0 to capture gold at 125 kilograms.
Garette Saunders finished second at 57 kilograms after losing the final 7-0 to Treye Trotman of the London-Western WC.
Bringing home bronze medals were Nick Rowe and Callum Knox. Rowe earned bronze at 70 kilograms when teammate Cole Coghill had to pull out of the bronze-medal match with an injury. Knox won bronze at 97 kilograms by pinning Tejvir Dhinsa of Guru Gobind Singh WC.
Bobby Narwal lost the bronze-medal match 7-3 to Owen Martin of Burnaby Mountain WC in the 74-kilogram division and Nicolae Gandrabura of Brock WC won the 65-kilogram fifth-place match by default.
JUNIOR WOMEN (UNDER-20)
Brock’s Francesca Lo Greco, Bronwyn MacGregor and Vanessa Keefe were crowned Canadian junior women’s champions.
Lo Greco defeated Brock’s Shahreen Gulacha 9-0 in the final to win gold at 50 kilograms. MacGregor went 3-0 in pool wrestling, including two pins, to top the 62-kilogram division. Keefe placed first at 68 kilograms by going 4-0 in her pool. She pinned one opponent and defeated three others by technical superiority.
Cassie Corbett went 1-2 in pool action to earn bronze at 72 kilograms.
JUNIOR MEN (UNDER-20)
Brock’s Matteo Romano was second and William Kennedy was third in the junior men’s events.
Romano went 3-1 in his pool to mine silver at 57 kilograms and Kennedy defeated Koen Poirier of the Black Bears WC by technical superiority in the bronze-medal match at 74 kilograms.
CADET WOMEN (UNDER-17)
Charlotte Bowslaugh of the Brock Junior Badgers won cadet gold at 73 kilograms. She took the gold medal match by technical superiority over Aniah Zedan of Team Xtreme.
CADET MEN (UNDER-17)
Brock Junior Badgers’ Abraham Pomeroy made it to the finals at 65 kilograms before losing to Liam Gorton of the Coast Wrestling Academy and Society.
Ezekiel Ivri won a bronze medal at 51 kilograms.
