Aug. 12 local sports: CYO Rebels registration/Niagara Juel/Juel Prep tryouts
CYO BASKETBALL REGISTRATION
St Catharines Rebels CYO basketball has opened its registration for its Junior NBA program (born 2014 or later cost $160) and the house leagues at the novice (born 2012 to 2014, cost $200), atom and bantam (born 2011 to 2018, cost $210) and midget and juvenile (born 2007 or earlier, cost $185) divisions.
All players wishing to try out for a select team must submit the online registration with the house league fee applicable for their age group. The payment will be credited to the total select fee if selected. Players not successful will be routed to the house league unless the player decides not to continue. The fee will be returned if the player is not selected to the team and decides not to play house league.
“The Rebels organization is glad to be back in the gym ready to serve all the kids in Niagara,” Rebels vice-president Frank Keltos said. “We do not have any new programs but we have partnered with Ridley College is using the Griffith Gym daily to run our select clubs’ practices and then on the weekends our house league programs.”
That partnership is a great fit for CYO basketball.
“It is allowing us to continue to run a program outside of the valuable hours we have available with both school boards,” he said. “We will also still be using our other facilities such as DM etc. but now will be able to accommodate more players from the area.”
The association will be following all the COVID protocols as directed by Public Health.
“We are always looking for more volunteers in both the house league and select programs, from refs to coaches. Support will provided by the convenor and board,” Keltos said.

NIAGARA JUEL/JUEL PREP TRYOUTS
Tryouts for the Niagara Juel and Juel Prep teams will be held Friday, Aug. 20, Friday, Aug. 27 and Tuesday, Aug. 31.
The Juel Prep practices will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and the Juel practices will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Players interested in trying out for the Niagara Juel and Juel Prep teams must register on the Pelham Panthers website at https://www.pelhambasketball.ca.
There is no cost to register.
