OFSAA track and field medal haul for locals
Owen Robins of Port Colborne, shown in this file shot, won OFSAA gold in the senior boy shot put and discus.
Samacki Thomas, Owen Robins and T.J. Woods highlighted an impressive medal haul for local athletes at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations track and field meet last week in London.
Thomas of Saint Paul won silver in the novice boys 200 metres and long jump and earned bronze in the 100 metres.
Robins of Port Colborne struck gold in the senior boys shot put and discus.
Woods of Denis Morris won gold in the novice boys 1,500 metres and bronze in the 800 metres.
Also mining a gold medal was Xavier Griffith of Churchill in the novice boys high jump.
Earning silver medals were: Collegiate’s Amairah Gayle in the novice girls high jump; Josée Regala of Brebeuf in the novice girls 80-metre hurdles; Elijah Kpioyo of E.L. Crossley in the novice boys high jump; Carson Gauthier of Saint Michael in the senior boys javelin; and, Stephan Michael of Denis Morris in the II 100 metres.
Taking home bronze medals were: Maeva Scipio of Franco-Niagara in the novice girls 80-metre hurdles; Faith Jacobi of Centennial in the novice girls discus; Coco Van Nynatten of West Niagara in the senior girls; Chase Larsen of West Niagara in the novice boys 300-metre hurdles; Adam Freure of E.L. Crossley in the junior boys pole vault; and, Braeden Brouwer of West Niagara in the senior boys 110 metre hurdles.
Just missing the podium and placing fourth were: Regala in the novice girls long jump; Sophia Cino of Blessed Trinity in the senior girls 3,000 metres; Sadiekie Hayden of Saint Francis in the junior boys 300 metre hurdles; Mico Penich of Blessed Trinity in the junior boys triple jump; and, Graham Tomori of Eden in the senior boys 1,500 metres.
